Mami Izumi

Managing Director, Production Coordinator and Co-Founder Rover

Mami Izumi (Japan, 1987) studied dance in Osaka, where she danced from 2005 till 2011 at the Homura Tomoi Ballet Company. In 2012 she went to the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) in Austria to study contemporary dance. Already before she graduated in 2014, she was selected to work with dance company BODHI project.

Mami has been based in Maastricht since 2015.

She danced, created and choreographed with Needcompany, Grace Ellen Barkey, cieLAROQUE, Mouvoir, Alexis Blake, Joost Vrouenraets, Toneelgroep Maastricht and HFC Crew, among others. From 2016 to 2020, Mami was supported by talent development organization VIA ZUID. In 2019 she made Polished together with Roshanak Morrowatian. They received the BNG Bank Dance Prize 2020 for this performance.

In her work, Mami tries to stimulate communities through a joint creative process. She is interested in how dance unfolds a story, defines and strengthens the connection of man.

In addition to her work at Rover, Mami gives movement lessons at Toneelacademie Maastricht and iArts.
