Mami Izumi

Managing Director, Production Coordinator and Co-Founder Rover

Mami Izumi (Japan, 1987) studied professional dance in Osaka and in 2005 she joined the Homura Tomoi Ballet Company in Japan, where she worked as a professional ballet dancer until 2011. In 2012 she went to the professional dance program at the SEAD dance academy in Austria to study contemporary dance; in her second year, when she entered her last year of these studies, she was selected to work in the BODHI project. In 2014, after graduating, she took part in the piece All Tomorrow’s Parties with Needcompany / Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey in Steirischer Herbst Festival (AT) and toured with the company to Sarajevo (Bosnia), Montpellier (FR) and Brussels (BE).

Mami has been based in Maastricht, Limburg, since 2015. She has worked with directors and choreographers such as Anton Lachky Company, Need company / Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey, cieLaroque/ Helene Weinzierl, Mouvoir / Stephanie Thiersch, Alexis Blake, Joost Vrouenraets, Toneelgroep Maastricht and more. Since 2016 she has been supported by VIA ZUID – Talentontwikkeling podium arts Limburg and works, creates and choreographs with various artists. Her first collaboration with HFC FUKAN was presented at the schrit_tmacher festival and in 2019, in collaboration with Roshanak Morrowatian, Polished premiered at the Cultura Nova Festival. For this performance, they received the BNG Dansprijs together and were part of the DansClick 22 tour in 2020.

In her work, she tries to stimulate communities through a joint creative process. She is interested in how dance unfolds a story, defines and strengthens the connection of man.
